Crafting When We Can Challenge - Card for a Child

The Crafting When We Can Challenge is to create a card for a child.  The sponsor is A Random Fan; when I saw this image, Pirate Adventure, it reminded me of my grandsons!  This was a fun card to create!  I used SU designer paper for the background, a fiskars waves border punch, a star button, some heavy hemp, and the anchor is a die cut.

We hope you'll play along with the Crafting When We Can Challenge.  You can find the challenge HERE.

Oriental Sketch Challenge #30

Every Saturday we have an Oriental Sketch Challenge at Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co.
Here is the sketch for this week's challenge:

For my card, I used a stamp and sentiment from the MFP Lotus Blossoms stamp set.  I used a Sheena Douglass embossing folder called Oriental Birds for the background panel.  The layering panels are cut from Graphic 45 Bird Song designer paper.  The image was stamped using Memento black ink and colored using Copic markers.  Adhesive backed pearls embellish upper and lower corners.

Just a tip about designer paper packs...most packs have beautiful covers that depict small pictures of the designs within the pack.  Don't overlook those cover pictures - cut them up and use on your creations!

We hope you will participate in the Oriental Sketch Challenge #30; if you do, you'll be entered to win a stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers!  You can find the challenge HERE.

Diane's Daydream Designs Birthday Bash Kit

What an adorable, fun-filled kit!  Birthday Bash has lots of cute images, papers, all kinds of elements to create sweet cards!  You can find the Birthday Bash kit at Diane's Daydream Designs online store.

I layered the bingo card, owl, and balloons together and die cut using a spellbinders die.  My card is a 6x6 easel card.  I picked up the cardstock and pattern paper colors from the pre-colored images.  The sentiment is also from the Birthday Bash kit.

Simple Salutations Challenge #90 - Make it Elegant!

This week's Simple Salutations Challenge at Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co., is to create an elegant card.  For the card base, I used a Heartfelt Creations corner die and followed a tutorial I found on facebook.  I love the elegance of the swans in the MFP stamp set with that name, Swans.  I stamped the smaller solid swan in black and the congratulations sentiment from that same set.  I die cut the image and sentiment using a spellbinders floral oval die.  I embellished the intricate top of the card with an adhesive pearl.  This card could be used as a wedding card, engagement card, or any occasion that you want to give the message of congratulations.

We hope you'll share your elegant cards with us this week at MFP Simple Salutations Challenge; if you do, you'll be entered to win a stamp from Mark's Finest Papers!  You can find the challenge HERE.

I want to give credit to the crafter whose tutorial I used for this elegant card fold.  Here is a link to her facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/ValsCardStudio

And, here is her tutorial:

Tutorial on how to make the Lacey corner die card by Val Fricker

This will only work with dies that have a cutting edge on one edge.

Start with a piece of A4 card cut down to make a 6 x 6” card blank

BUT DON’T SCORE IT

Next measure up almost 6” from the bottom, and mark lightly with a pencil.

Now tape your die to the card with the top of the die on the pencil mark. Making sure it is square and level on each side.

Run this through your cutting machine, and this should be how it looks from the underside.

Notice the cut edge is only at the top.

Remove the die and this will be how it looks from the front.

The card will naturally fold on the cut line.

You can either cut off the excess card or score it (concertina style) to stand as a tent card

It will lie flat to into an envelope.

SWAT Challenge #91 - Pocket Card!

This week's Sketch With a Twist Challenge uses this sketch and twist:

The TWIST is to create a pocket on your card!

For my card, I created a double diagonal pocket card.  I searched youtube for the tutorial and found one that not only created the double pockets but it opens like a regular A2 card.  I used the Mark's Finest Papers newly released Friends stamp set, October Afternoon Farmhouse designer paper, and Ranger tags for the inserts (see inserts below).

We hope you'll share your pocket cards with us at MFP Sketch With a Twist Challenge #91.  If you do, you'll be entered to win an Oopsy Daisy stamp from Mark's Finest Papers!  You can find the challenge HERE.

ETA:  I had a request for the link to the youtube video; however, when I linked it here I could not get it to open.  However, you can use your browser to search youtube double diagonal pocket card for the technique.

I arranged my flower pot onto a card.  I used a stamp from the Background Fun stamp set for the card background and on the flower pot.  The flowers inside the pot are from the newly released Friends samp set.  Also added a leafy flourish die cut, lace, ribbon, and a small ladybug button to embellish the flower pot.

Diane's Daydream Designs - Beachscapes!

I used the Beachscapes digi stamp set and sentiment from Diane's Daydream Designs.  What a relaxing thought to spend time at the beach, sit in the sand, build a sandcastle and reflect on all the beauty that God has provided us.

The background paper for my card is Webster's Pages, a piece of burlap from a burlap paper stack by DCWV and a piece of mixed media cord.  A simple card with a beautiful message!

MFP Simple Salutations Challenge - Things With Wings

This week's Simple Salutations Challenge at Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co., is to create a card with the theme Things with Wings!  For my card I used the butterfly and sentiment from the Cracked Hello stamp set.  My card is very CAS, image and sentiment stamped using memento black ink; butterflies colored using Copic markers.  I used my new favorite Martha Border punch and put a piece of cardstock behind the punched out portion to give it some color.

Cuttin' and Stampin' Color Challenge

March 18 - 24, 2014
Challenge - Anything goes using Green, Blue, Red, Yellow and Teal.

The design team is using the Simple Stories Homespun paper line for this weeks creations.  I absolutely love this line.  The first time I looked at it, I thought about sitting on grandma's front.  I loved using it for the challenge.  It is offered in the Cuttin' and Stampin' Facebook store (link below).

Simple Stories Homespun 6x6 paper pack

For my card, I used papers from the Homespun paper pack; it covers all the colors for the challenge, red, blue, green, yellow, and teal!  Love the dainty floral print from the pack.

The design team has created some really awesome cards with this paper.  We hope you'll play along with the challenge this week!

We think this color group is amazing and I'm sure everyone will create something wonderful with it.  Be sure to link up your projects Here.

Twisted Tuesday Challenge - Don't Go Near the Edge with a Twist!

The Twisted Tuesday Challenge is Don't Go Near the Edge!, other than your base paper/cardstock, don't let anything else on your project get very close to the outside edges.  So, that means no ribbon gong all the way to the edge or border strips, photos or images, etc.  Keep everything clustered in the middle!  The TWIST is to use dictionary, old book, or script paper on your project.

For my card, I had a piece of burlap left over from another project that I wanted to use, no talking me out of it!  So, that's what I built my card around, that piece of burlap!  Then I wanted to use a brand new Tattered Lace Owl die I recently purchased.  A tree limb from another die pack and the flower was cut from the HFC smaller Vintage Florets dies.  I used old dictionary page to cut the flower shapes and sponged some ColorBox Berrylicous ink before shaping them.  I used some pink rhinestone gems for the eyes of the Owl and layered all this onto the burlap piece, being careful not to touch the edges.

We hope you'll play along with the Don't Go Near the Edge with the twist of using old dictionary, book, or script paper on your creation.  You can find the challenge HERE.

SWAT #90 - Your're On The Clock! It's All About Time!

It's Sketch With a Twist Challenge #90 ( aka SWAT) at Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co.
Here's this week's sketch and challenge:

The TWIST is to create a card that has something to do with Time!

For my card, I used the Yikes! a Mouse stamp set!  The sentiment is also from that set.  The cardstock is Stampin' Up, the designer paper is from We R Memory Keepers.  Ribbon is from my stash as well as the button with clock numbers.  Adhesive pearls also embellish the card front.  One of the layering panels was embossed using the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  Image was stamped using memento back ink and colored with Copic markers.

We hope you will play along with the SWAT challenge this week.  If you do, you'll be entered into a drawing for a free stamp from Mark's Finest Papers.

Diane's Daydream Designs - Irish Blessings

There's a little Irish in all of us on St. Patrick's Day!
Do you have any St. Patrick's Day traditions that you follow?  Do you wear something green?!

Now, about my card!  I enjoy creating different shaped cards but I rarely create using green!  I really like how this scalloped circle card came together!  I used the sentiment and Celtic Circle from the Irish Blessings sentiments from Diane's Daydream Designs.  The flower is from the Birthday Bash digital kit collection.

For the flower, I sized 2 large and 2 smaller flowers, fussy cut them out, used a stylus to shape each petal and then layered the flowers together and adhered with a small brad that I put through a bead spacer before placing into the center of the flower.

The card base and gingham layer are from American Crafts cardstock and designer paper.

Crafting When We Can Challenge - Hearts and Flowers

The challenge at Crafting When We Can is to create a project with hearts and flowers on it.

The sponsor for this challenge is Art by Miran.  I chose the Cute Window digi stamp to create my Hearts and Flowers card.  I also used some small flower die cuts from Memory Box; fence is punched using a Martha Stewart border punch, and the grass is also a Martha Stewart punch, along with the small butterfly.  I fussy cut the image and layered all the elements onto a cardstock layer embossed using a Darice Brick embossing folder.  The hearts are on the window shutters!

We hope you'll play along with the Hearts and Flowers challenge.  Be sure to read the challenge rules!  You can find the challenge HERE.
